Democrats Abroad Announces Renewed Country Committee

Welcomes Democrats Abroad Greece

Chapter formed in Athens

Washington, DC – Today, Democrats Abroad announced that the
organization has approved the refounding of Democrats Abroad Greece
(DAGR) as a country committee. Founded in 1964, Democrats Abroad is the
official overseas branch of the U.S. Democratic Party which represents
Americans living abroad. The Greece Country Committee of Democrats
Abroad helps Americans living in Greece register to vote, organizes
educational events and builds a sense of community among the Americans
residents in Greece. Greece had an active committee from 1986 until
2008.

“It is particularly meaningful to welcome back Democrats Abroad
Greece as we recognize that it is the birthplace of modern democracy.
With Yvette Jarvis’ leadership, DAGR will bring both energy and
enthusiasm to the entire organization and do all that it can to help
get democrats elected to Congress this year,” said Christine Schon
Marques, International Chair, Democrats Abroad.

“We welcome back Democrats Abroad Greece and look forward to working
with them to elect democrats to Congress and improve the U.S. image
abroad,” said Susan Haug, Democrats Abroad Regional Vice Chair for
Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

“Our goal this year is to energize American voters in Greece to help
assure President Obama the majority he needs in both houses of
Congress,” said Yvette Jarvis, Chair of DAGR.

DAGR’s current Executive Committee consists of nine enthusiastic and
talented leaders, including two members from the Athens Chapter:

Chair - Yvette M. Jarvis from New York has lived in Greece for 27
years. In addition to her role as advisor to the Athens municipality,
she is a vocal artist and media personality.

Vice Chair- Alec Mally, a retired diplomat with three postings in Greece, is a business consultant from Florida.

Secretary - Brady Kiesling from Texas is a former diplomat, working in Greece as a writer and columnist since 2004.

Treasurer - John A. Bacalis, a New York voter, now teaches accounting and business in Athens.

Counsel - Nicholas J. Pisaris, a corporate lawyer from Florida, has made Greece his business headquarters since 2001.

Members at Large - Lyn Waldie and Kostas Zafirakis – An educator
from New Hampshire, Lyn settled permanently in Greece in 1997. Kostas
is a travel industry professional from New York, back in Greece since
2004.

DAGR Athens is the first of multiple chapters covering all of
Greece. The Athens Chapter officers are Chair Vivian E. Gales from
California, assistant professor at the University of Indianapolis, and
Representative Nicolas Angelakis, from California, who has worked in
the defense sector.
