Democrats Abroad Ready to Make Impact on 2010
U.S. Election
Get Out the Vote Campaign Launched from Abroad
Washington, DC –Democrats Abroad will launch a global Get Out the Vote (GOTV) campaign to maximize American participation in the 2010
U.S. election. Founded in 1964, Democrats Abroad is the official overseas branch of the U.S. Democratic Party. With members in more than 160 countries around the globe, Democrats Abroad holds eight positions on the Democratic National Committee and sends a voting delegation to the Democratic National Convention to select our presidential candidate.
To make it as easy as possible for Americans living abroad to vote, Democrats Abroad manages the one-stop-shop website, www.votefromabroad.org, where Americans can request their absentee ballot and find out other important voting information.
In addition, Democrats Abroad will be hosting registration drive events, making phone calls and utilizing social media to turn out the American from abroad vote in this critical election year. There are 435 House elections and 36 Senate elections.
“Just over a year ago, we saw history being made before our eyes. We saw the opportunity to move forward, not backwards. We knew we would move forward on health reform, climate change, and equal rights,” Christine Schon Marques said.
“This November will be key to implementing the President's agenda, by maintaining our Democratic majorities in the House and Senate. And as Americans living abroad, we can keep making the critical difference in the mid-term federal elections,” Ms. Marques continued.
“We invite Americans living abroad to join us in celebrating the many successes of the President’s first year, including: Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor's nomination, legislation that guarantees equal pay for equal work, passage of the Hate Crimes Prevention Act, a firm stand against torture, the Recovery Act, the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment (MOVE) Act, and health insurance reform,” Ms. Marques continued.
Americans living abroad can request their absentee ballot now at www.VoteFromAbroad.org.
