On September 10, in a room filled to overflowing at the restaurant in the heart of Paris where Barbara hosted the monthly meeting of the group she created, The Political Forum, a place and a space for people in Paris of all stripes, to express their political opinions, often wise, often vociferous and always informed. Many of us came this time to share our memories of the woman we knew and were touched by in so many ways.
Barbara came to Paris, a city she adored, to fulfill a longtime dream which never left her. She immediately became involved with Democrats Abroad (politics was her passion) becoming at various times secretary, vice-chair. She gave her energy to voting registration, created the energy/environment groups and gave us her huge knowledge of politics, a knowledge she acquired in the United States where she supported Ralph Nader, worked for President Reagan, ran political campaigns almost to the end, the last being for the Governor of the state of Connecticut! We benefited enormously. Her talents and expertise raised Democrats Abroad to another level.
She has left us but her legacy remains. In this messy world, when we are confronted with seemingly impossible situations at the human and political level, one often asks, “What would Barbara say about this?”
Her presence will be sorely missed.
