Here's yet another of Tom Fina's insightful analyses of the current disarray in the Republican party.  I highly recommend reading this.

LETTER FROM WASHINGTON
To Democrats Abroad
22 October 2013
Tom Fina, Executive Director Emeritus

My September lead that “The Republican Party is risking its survival as we have known it...” has been confirmed by the debacle of its shutdown of government and driving the nation to the brink of default.

No foreign enemy has ever done such harm to our democratic institutions, to our economy at home nor to our authority and leadership abroad.

Thomas Fina on Republican Obstructionism

Here's another of Tom Fina's insightful analyses of the current political situation.  I highly recommend reading this all the way through.

LETTER FROM WASHINGTON
To Democrats Abroad
21 April 2013
Tom Fina
Executive Director Emeritus

In my last guess, in February, about the outlook for us liberal Democrats, I saw "signs that an outcome favorable to liberals may be within reach."

That was then.

I was underestimating the savagery of the gravely wounded Republican Party.

It is now 166 days since national elections in which Obama won 51.1% of the popular vote and 332 of the 538 Electoral votes. Democrats expanded their majority in the Senate to 53 seats and 54.3% of the vote. Democrats won 59.5% of the votes for the House although, through gerrymandering, Republicans won 53% of the seats.

Passing the Baton

March 24 marked the official transition to the newly elected DAI Board Members.   The meeting of the incoming and outgoing boards took place in Ubud, Bali and was hosted by Dave Van Rooy and his wife Pong.

The 12 attending DAI members gathered and spent the evening discussing the past, present and future concerns, considerations and goals of Democrats Abroad , and specifically, the local chapter of Democrats Abroad Indonesia (DAI).   Regional election results had just been announced, the DPCA  London Global is due to  meet  on April 19-21,  and here, in Indonesia, we are passing the baton to the new DAI officers. The retiring Chair, Dave Van Rooy, has now become part of the DA IT (Information Techonology) Team but will also stay on as a Board Member.

LETTER FROM WASHINGTON
To Democrats Abroad
27 January 2013
Tom Fina
Executive Director Emeritus

Obama has announced, and begun, a different approach in his second term to achieving the goals for which he was elected. He has made clear that the changes that he and his 51% majority believe are necessary in the United States cannot be made with Republican cooperation but only by overcoming their obstruction.

LETTER FROM WASHINGTON
To Democrats Abroad
18 November 2012
Tom Fina
Executive Director Emeritus

The wide ranging dimensions of the Obama win have grown since election night. Despite limited gains in the House and Republican gains among governors, Obama’s large lead in the Electoral vote, his majority in the popular vote (51% to 48%) and the upset delivering Democrats a 55 to 45  Senate majority, have re-shaped the political  landscape for both the short and the long term.
