Welcome to the official branch of the Democratic Party for Americans living in Italy.

Who we are

Founded in 1964, Democrats Abroad is the official overseas branch of the Democratic Party of the United States.

Democrats Abroad members are US citizens living temporarily or permanently outside the United States.

Democrats Abroad consists of 34 recognized Country Committees, plus individual members in more than 100 countries around the globe.

The international governing body of Democrats Abroad is known as the Democratic Party Committee Abroad, or DPCA.

Democrats Abroad is recognized and seated as the equivalent of a State Party within the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Democrats Abroad holds 8 positions on the DNC and sends a voting delegation to the Democratic National Convention to choose our party's presidential candidate.

What we do

Democrats Abroad assists American citizens living overseas to actively participate in every level of the US political process.

Democrats Abroad promotes overseas voting by the millions of Americans living and working outside the United States.

In 2006, Democrats Abroad launched VoteFromAbroad.org - the easiest and most comprehensive solution to the complexities of overseas voting. Accessible in both English and Spanish, VoteFromAbroad.org assists US voters anywhere in the world to register and request an absentee ballot.

In February 2008, Democrats Abroad held its own Global Primary alongside the State primaries and caucuses back home.  Tens of thousands of Americans living abroad took the opportunity to vote in this historic primary where Barack Obama won over 65% of the overseas vote.

The Employment Situation in December

THE WHITE HOUSE

Office of the Press Secretary

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Statement on the Employment Situation in December

WASHINGTON, DC – Alan B. Krueger, Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, issued the following statement today on the employment situation in December. You can view the statement HERE.

Enthusiastic Democratic Turnout in Iowa Reflects Strength of Grassroots Organization

  • The Iowa caucus was an opportunity to test our organization and expand our volunteer base as we move toward November, and Tuesday’s results showed an incredible amount of enthusiasm for the President’s reelection, and to preserve the change that we’ve delivered together.
    • 25,000 Iowans turned out to talk about the President's record and vision to restore security to the middle class.
    • 7,500 Iowans pledged to volunteer and work for the campaign.
    • Compare that to the fraction of that number that turned out for President Bush in 2004 in a similar uncontested caucus.

within a mere five minutes. This could go viral. Be first to hear it!

Christmas in Milan

Find your way down the street through the fog,
Smell the roasted chestnuts through the smog,
It's the time of year,
When the crowds squeeze near,
In the Metrò to shove you along.

Christmas means giving something more,
To your loved ones and also to the poor,
Which I'd gladly do,
If I could just get through,
All this traffic and reach the stores.

(Chorus)

Oh, it's Christmas in Milan,
The city that acts like the Grinch,
But just when you're feeling the pinch,
Christmas comes just the same.

This year I'm really going to turn a page,
Keep the holidays within a human range,
Just to sing with friends,
Till the evening ends,
Will pay for all my Christmas needs, plus change.

Oh, it's Christmas in Milan,
The city that acts like the Grinch,
But just when you're feeling the pinch,
Christmas comes just the same.
Somehow or other it came just the same.

DA-M Donkey Fall 2011 Newsletter

"You're entitled to your own opinion, not your own facts."

Student Loan Forgiveness, the end of war in Iraq, pushing for the American Jobs Act - President Obama is not backing down. The Fall Edition of the Donkey is keeping things in perspective.

As 2012 nears, we'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on current US politics, foreign policy, and address Obama's status as of late. We'll play highlights of his jobs speech and twitter interviews, listen to criticism that has erupted, and view some of the Occupy Wall Street footage (is comparison of OWS to the Tea Party movement on par?); maybe even hear a little from the Republican debate. We will also discuss our presence on the web and how everyone can help out leading up to the campaign. If there's a video you'd like us to play, let us now!

There will be FREE REFRESHMENTS

Ten Short Years Later

Democrats Abroad Milan has scheduled a memorial vigil on the morning of Sunday, Sept.11, 2011 to commemorate the tragic attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The meeting place - rain or shine - will be in front of Castello Sforzesco at the big fountain at 8:45 am. At about 9:00 am we will proceed through the castle into the park behind it and form a circle on the first free lawn. Aftera few moments of silence with candles lit, participants will be free tospeak. The DA-M Chairman will act as informal "moderator" to guide the discussion to a review of the effect the attacks have had on the intervening ten years and a reflection on what "might have been". All are welcome.
