Happy New Year to all Democrats in Milan!

Well, we did it! The elections are over and Democrats have picked up eight seats in the House, three votes in the Senate and of course Barack Obama is still President. Congratulations and thanks to all of you for your support, your work and your votes.

Please join us to watch President Obama's
swearing-in and inaugural address live on
Monday, January 21 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at
Fiori Oscuri Bistrot in
via Fiori Oscuri, 3 (demsin.tl/fioriaddress)
M2 Lanza, M3 Montenapoleone.
Bus Line 61 Piazza San Marco/Pontaccio Stop

After all, there is plenty to celebrate. In addition to November's victory, the President has already won another major battle in averting the fiscal cliff: He stood fast against Tea Party resistance, and at the end 85 House Republicans voted to let tax cuts expire on the wealthiest 2% of Americans. We'll provide some details about the deal on the night.

January 21 is also Martin Luther King Day, and we are planning to honor that great American as well. The concurrence of these two particular occasions is especially poignant, soI hope you all will be able to drop in to enjoy a drink and a bite - the food's on us!. See you there!

Best, Richard and the Democrats Abroad Milan Board

Democrats Abroad-Milan has the pleasure of inviting you to a very special evening. Massachussetts Senate Candidate
Prof. Elizabeth Warren will be speaking live to Democrats Abroad across Europe, and will answer our pre-submitted questions. Warren is in a tight race to win back the seat held for decades by the late Teddy Kennedy - and Democratic control of the Senate hangs in the balance. Elizabeth Warren is an authoritative voice against the abuses of the financial industry. We need her in the Senate and she deserves our donations.

Her talk will be followed by a screening of the first of three debates between President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, about 18 hours after it is held in Denver. No need to remind you what is at stake in this contest.

      Screening of Gasland

"The largest domestic natural gas drilling boom in history has swept across the United States. The Halliburton-developed drilling technology of "fracking" or hydraulic fracturing has unlocked a "Saudia Arabia of natural gas" just beneath us. But is fracking safe? When filmmaker Josh Fox is asked to lease his land for drilling, he embarks on a cross-country odyssey uncovering a trail of secrets, lies and contamination. A recently drilled nearby Pennsylvania town reports that residents are able to light their drinking water on fire. This is just one of the many absurd and astonishing revelations of a new country called GASLAND. Part verite travelogue, part expose, part mystery, part bluegrass banjo meltdown, part showdown."

PS: The evening will also witness the WORLD PREMIER of the below carol, written by Richard
within a mere five minutes. This could go viral. Be first to hear it!

Christmas in Milan

Find your way down the street through the fog,
Smell the roasted chestnuts through the smog,
It's the time of year,
When the crowds squeeze near,
In the Metrò to shove you along.

Christmas means giving something more,
To your loved ones and also to the poor,
Which I'd gladly do,
If I could just get through,
All this traffic and reach the stores.

(Chorus)

Oh, it's Christmas in Milan,
The city that acts like the Grinch,
But just when you're feeling the pinch,
Christmas comes just the same.

This year I'm really going to turn a page,
Keep the holidays within a human range,
Just to sing with friends,
Till the evening ends,
Will pay for all my Christmas needs, plus change.

Oh, it's Christmas in Milan,
The city that acts like the Grinch,
But just when you're feeling the pinch,
Christmas comes just the same.
Somehow or other it came just the same.
