Personal Sample Letter / Phone Guidelines by Beverly Bandler for contacting members of Congress about Healthcare Reform.
"I believe it is time for real health care reform. It is outrageous
that America is the only wealthy, industrialized nation that does not
ensure that all citizens have universal health care coverage.
According to a study reported in The New England Journal of Medicine, 70 percent of Americans surveyed believe the health care system needs major changes, if not complete overhaul.
Healthcare legislation must include: coverage we can afford;
comprehensive benefits we can count on; choice of a private plan or a national public health insurance plan ready on day one; and equal access to quality care.
I believe that the public insurance option is the only way to guarantee healthcare for all Americans. For me its inclusion is non-negotiable: A public health insurance option is the only way to control our health
care costs. It will give us real choice of doctors and insurance plans,
increase competition and keep the insurance industry honest, and get our bank accounts and economy back on track.
Please oppose false compromises that are designed to kill the public
health insurance option--actions that appear to be based solely on
political goals rather than on substance, and that are designed to kill
healthcare reform altogether. Americans deserve choice and competition. The public option has the support of 83% of the America people, according to a June, 2009 poll.
I am not attacking capitalism or corporate America. I am an investor in our economy. But abuses and the unfair influence of both on public policies have endangered our democracy. Fear mongering and
scare/misinformation tactics on the part of corporate and other
opponents are not arguments of substance. We expect Congress to recognize these efforts for what they are, and to rise above this
level. Congress is obligated to do so.
National security includes heath care protection for all Americans. I
am a citizen respectfully reminding congressional members that Congress is obligated to be on the side of its citizens. "
