The Jerusalem and Area Local Group led by Coordinator Efrat Benn held a successful evening on March 10th in the Baka Quarter of Jerusalem to promote voter registration and request for an absentee ballot for the midterm election this year using the best online tool available -- www.votefromabroad.org. Computer and printer were set up for the many folks who attended and were interested in this service. It was noted that quite a few came up from Tel Aviv and elsewhere in the coastal area!!
The evening featured an excellent talk on "Can Israel Adjust to the Obama Administration?" by Dr. Yael Sternhell, who is a specialist in Southern USA history and politics, and serves as a commentator in the Israeli media on contemporary American politics. She noted that the title could also have been "Can Obama Adjust to the Current Israeli Administration?". Dr. Sternhell teaches at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The many questions and comments from the floor attested to the high interest in the subject.
DA-Israel Chair Joanne Yaron gave a brief presentation on the importance of the midterm elections and answered questions from the audience on the dates of the primaries in many of the States and noted several of the "hot races" in the Senate and House in diverse States. All seats in the House and one-third of the Senate seats are up for election.
Voter registration continued throughout the evening.
