Policy Group Initiative!

Dear Dems Abroad members, Anything bugging you that the US government is (or isn't) doing? See anyblind spots in policy you'd like to point out? Problems that should befixed? Ready for more action and less talk? Now's your chance to have a say and make a difference! Monica Eppinger will be heading up our Policy Group Initiative, which willserve as a way for members of Dems Abroad Ukraine to get involved in policyformation and the drafting of the Dems Abroad 2008 platform. The plan is to pick a couple of policy problems, think through some possiblesolutions together, and then send our ideas up to be considered forinclusion in the Democratic party platform. Other ways to get ideas incirculation could include white papers for think-tanks, letters toCongressional staff or executive branch agencies, or op-ed pieces. The Policy Group Initiative will probably focus on issues of foreign policy, given our comparative advantage, but if anyone wants to take up a domesticissue, that's also on the table. Monica brings deep foreign policyexperience to this position, having served for nine years in the U.S.Foreign Service (including a posting here in Kiev!). Members of the Policy Group Initiative will also have the opportunity toparticipate directly in policy groups that are focused on specific issues atthe international level within Dems Abroad. To sign up for the Policy Group Initiative, please contact Monica atmonica.eppinger@democratsabroad.org.ua. If it works for interested folks' schedules, Monica proposes the firstmeeting of the Policy Group Initiative for Tuesday, May 29 at 7 p.m.
