Ambassador Marques has been serving as Brazilian Ambassador to Ukraine since 2003. He has held diplomatic posts in the Brazilian Delegation to the Latin American Free Trade Association (1973/76), the Brazilian Embassy in Washington (Political Section - 1976/1980), the Brazilian Mission to the European Economic Communities (1983/87), the Brazilian
Delegation to the Latin American Integration Association (1987/88), and as Consul General in Barcelona (1999/03).
As Secretary of Foreign Trade of Brazil in 1993, he was involved, as head of Division and Department in the Ministry of External Relations, in the negotiations of all treaties related to the economic integration with Argentina, to the constitution of MERCOSUR, to the conclusion of free trade agreements with Chile and Bolivia and to the negotiations of the pending free trade agreements with the European Union and with the United States (AFTA).
With NAFTA most recently on the forefront of debate in Texas and Ohio, we will look forward to hearing Ambassador Marques' views on free trade agreements. We'll also look forward to hearing his views on Washington, where he served during the Carter presidency.
