At long long last... Less than a week remains of the divisive, destructive Bush era. The promise of a newer and nobler start beckons.
We, the people, have wrought profound change. It is time to reflect, rejoice, and renew our commitment to working for a more perfect union.
Join us. At noon in Washington DC, on Tuesday, January 20, Barack Hussein Obama will be sworn in as the 44th President of the United States. DAL will show the inauguration ceremony live at Bardo cafe in Hamra (map), from 6:30 pm onwards. Doors open at 6:00 pm.
However joyful, this event is taking place against the backdrop of the unfolding tragedy of the Israeli invasion of Gaza and growing instability in the region. For this reason, DAL will turn this event into a fundraiser for Red Cross assistance in Gaza, with limited support to Democrats Abroad to continue this and other activities towards a more constructive US policy for Lebanon and the Middle East.
Tickets for the event will be $35, payable at the door, and include a buffet dinner and drinks. Space is limited, so please RSVP by Saturday, January 17, to mcburrell@hotmail.com. And please forward this invitation to your friends—citizens of all nations are welcome.
Finally, just as the US has given itself new leadership, it is time for DAL to do so as well. On March 9 DAL will hold elections for officers (chair, vice chair, treasurer, secretary, legal counsel, and two at-large board members). If you are interested in nominating yourself or another, please contact the Nominating Committee Chair, Jessica Dheere (jessica.dheere@gmail.com).
