Vancouverites Enter the Health Care Debate

The move to reform the US health care system is gaining momentum.  Two Vancouverites entered the public debate:

Diane Tucker recently shared her story with Nicholas Kristof at the New York Times.

Sara Robinson is a blogger at Campaign for America’s Future.  She worte one of the most read posts about healthcare on the web addressing the Myths of Canadian Health Care.

I just called the office of my representative and senators in Congress to tell them I vote and that I support reform that includes a public option and universal coverage.

The opposition to reform is organizing now to limit or stop the current move to reform.  Our views as Americans in Canada can make an important contribution to this debate.

Please get involved in this debate by contacting your representatives in Congress.  Here are easy steps for you to follow:

First, visit www.Congress.org.  On the top right hand side enter the zip code where you vote absentee.  This will provide you with the links to contact each of your elected representatives.

The best way to contact your representatives is to call them.  Ask to speak with the staff member in charge of health care reform.  Tell them you vote and that you want your representative to know your opinion about the issue.

If you don’t want to call, send a fax (I did both!).  Maureen Harwood and Linda Marshik of our DAV Policy Committee have created a template letter to help you get started.  Be sure to personalize the letter so that it reflects your position and fax it to your representatives.

If you prefer to mail your letter, address it, stamp it, and get it out today!

Finally, let us know that you are contacting your representatives by clicking here.
