Democrats Abroad Australia - Queensland Branch
This coming Saturday is the 4th of July, a date that may just ring a bell. True, on this date in 1054 the Chinese and Arabs famously observed a supernova, and on the same date in 1754 George Washington surrendered Fort Necessity to the French. But, divergent as we Dems are, we're similar in being more familiar with the date as marking the Second Continental Congress' adoption - in 1776 - of a certain statement: the Declaration of Independence.
On Saturday, July 4th, Democrats Abroad in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane - motivated by a continued interest in sustaining (or maybe reviving) the American democratic experiment - are gathering for some political palaver. Cracker barrels will accordingly be provided.
I will be able, briefly, to report on: the recent (June 20th) AGM held in Melbourne; the state of our national organisation (thriving); and - importantly - on several endeavours upon which Democrats Abroad (the international organisation) is engaged. Our own local engagement in these particular endeavours is sought and welcomed, and so I'll bring along the relevant information and wherewithal. After these brief preliminaries, it's the cracker barrel.
We'll be meeting at the home of one of our members, Lisa Peine. The address is 17 Rathdonnell Street, Auchenflower, 4066. We start at 3 in the afternoon. Hopefully, it will be warm enough to be out on the verandah for a spell.
As usual, feel free to bring some edibles, and some drink. Looking forward to seeing you again (or for the first time!).
One other thing: I need a volunteer (or several) to nominate (or be nominated) for the Chair of this Qld. chapter for the next several years. Instruction and spiritual counsel provided.
