Democrats Abroad to Lobby Congress
WHO: Democrats Abroad Executive Committee Members, Democratic National Committee Members, Democrats Abroad Country Committee Leadership, along with Democrats Abroad Members
Democrats Abroad is the official overseas branch of the U.S. Democratic Party. With members in more than 160 countries around the globe, Democrats Abroad holds eight positions on the Democratic National Committee and sends a voting delegation to the Democratic National Convention to select our presidential candidate.
“Although we live overseas, our concern for the United States and its image abroad, keeps our members actively engaged in the political process. Members traveling from 20 countries will be attending our fall meeting in Washington DC, including Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, UK, Portugal, France, Italy, South Africa, Taiwan, South Korea and Thailand,” said Kenneth E. Sherman, International Chair of Democrats Abroad.
WHAT: Executive Committee Members and Democrats Abroad members travel to Washington, DC to lobby the U.S. Congress on issues affecting Americans living overseas, including voting rights issues, family visas, health care, taxes and encouraging members of Congress to join the Americans Abroad Caucus. They will also meet with officials from the U.S. State Department and conduct a global conference.
WHEN: October 12-16, 2011
WHERE: Executive Committee members who have traveled to the United States from Canada, Luxembourg, Austria, South Africa, Republic of Korea, Taiwan and Guatemala are available for interviews with the media to discuss their meetings with Congress and President Obama’s successes in restoring the U.S. image abroad.
