FILM SCREENING & DISCUSSION: Frank Capra's Mr. Smith Goes to Washington

Film Duration: 2 hours, followed by a Discussion

Join Democrats Abroad Toulouse for a screening of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Frank Capra's well-known movie.  Shot in 1939 and starring James Stewart, the film tells the story of a newly elected US senator who fights against a corrupt political system.

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington was nominated for eleven Academy Awards. Considered to be one of the greatest films of all time, the film was selected by The Library of Congress as one of the first 25 films for preservation in the United States National Film Registry in 1989 for being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant."

Following the screening, Zachary Baqué, professor of US history and culture and a specialist in American cinema at the Université de Toulouse, will lead a discussion in the context of this important mid-term election year.
