THE CRIMINALIZATION OF WOMEN’S BODIES

Eight states have passed bills to limit abortion this year and last week Missouri and Alabama passed the first outright bans on the procedure.

Jennifer Merchant walks us through the long-feared upcoming challenge to Roe v. Wade limiting choice for women and a likely constitutional crisis concerning women’s rights.

Jennifer Merchant is the author of Procréation et politique aux Etats-Unis (1965-2005), Belin, 2006, and numerous articles and reports on women’s reproductive rights. Her forthcoming book is From the Constitution to Women’s Rights: The Legal Foundation. She is a political scientist, a professor at the Université Panthéon-Assas Paris II, where she is a member of the Center for Studies and Research in Administrative and Political Science (CERSA).
