WE DID IT!!!!
We were dubious if we could ever outperform our previous Get Out the Vote (GOTV) initiative, but we did!!! In the first GOTV in initiative on July 20, 2024 we netted 18 Americans citizens that were not yet registered to vote. On Saturday August 24, 2024 we netted 19 Americans not yet registered to vote, surpassing the previous record of 18 by one person.
Oh, you’re probably wondering just what is an GOTV event pray tell? Well, it’s actually quite simple. We set up a stand on a well-travelled area where many Americans would be likely to walk by and solicit them to registered to vote if they have not yet done so. In our case, this was near the intersection of Grand Rue and Rue des Capusins in Luxembourg City. We are looking for Americans that live abroad but are not yet registered to vote. We can register right on the spot!!!! Many American tourists that happened to wander by inquired about registering. We informed them to get in contact with their local election boards as this event was for Americans that are living overseas.
To register, applicants need to have some basic information
- Their American address
- Their Overseas address
- Their Social Security Number (last four digits)
- Passport or State ID (Depending on State Requirements)
Note that we register any American that is living overseas regardless of political persuasion.
Note that each state has different registration requirements. 13 states (see list below) require that the registration application, known as the “Federal Postcard Application aka FPCA”, has to be printed out and sent in.
Here are the stats:
- We were able to register 4 Americans on the spot!!! These Americans were applicants from states that allow electronic submission (see list below)
- We were able to get pintable post card applications (FPCA) for 4 Americans. Theses Americans were from New York and California respectively that requires them to mail in their registration application. These applicants chose to print their ballots at home and send in later
- The remaining 11 applicants chose to do so from home.
Worthy Mentionable!!!
- We had gained 8 new members of Democrats Abroad Luxembourg (DAL).
- We had a gaggle of 9 students living in Metz, France that were in Luxembourg City for a visit.
- Many well-wishers from non-Americans that passed by
- 3 non-Americans that volunteers to help at future events.
- Special thanks to Lynette Stoltzfus, Shiela Schrickel, and Ronan Dickey who volunteered to man the stand throughout the day.
