The Undertow by Jeff Sharlet
On Tuesday August 13 we’ll meet on Zoom to discuss The Undertow: Scenes from a Slow Civil War by Jeff Sharlet. Sharlet is a Dartmouth professor of creative writing who has won numerous awards for his writing on religious life and his music journalism in best-selling books and for Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone and GQ.
Alarmed by the country’s political divisions, Sharlet embarked on an anguished quest to understand the rise of antidemocratic extremism. The author of two books on the political dangers posed by Christian fundamentalism, he knows his territory.
