American Whitelash by Wesley Lowery

On Tuesday October 22 we’ll meet on Zoom to discuss American Whitelash: A Changing Nation and the Cost of Progress by Wesley Lowery

In 2008, Barack Obama's historic victory was heralded as a turning point for the USA.  “Instead what happened is that people lashed out in anger. A Black president was replaced by one who stoked nakedly nativist anxiety”: Trump.   Journalist Wesley Lowery, who was a lead reporter on a Pulitzer-winning Washington Post series about police shootings in 2015, interweaves historical analysis with interviews of both victims and perpetrators of violence.

American Whitelash is indispensable. Really. It is.

—Ibram X. Kendi, author of How to Be an Antiracist
