Democrats Abroad Announces 12 Democratic Presidential Candidates Qualify for Primary Ballot

The Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary will take place March 3-10, with in-person and remote voting options available.

Democrats Abroad, the official Democratic Party arm for the millions of Americans living outside the United States, has announced the candidates that have successfully filed to appear on their presidential primary ballot. These candidates, in alphabetical order, are:

  • Michael Bennet
  • Joe Biden
  • Michael Bloomberg
  • Cory Booker
  • Pete Buttigieg
  • Tulsi Gabbard
  • Amy Klobuchar
  • Deval Patrick
  • Bernie Sanders
  • Tom Steyer
  • Elizabeth Warren
  • Andrew Yang

The deadline for candidates to complete all ballot access requirements was January 6.

“We are very pleased to see such a robust list of candidates qualify for our 2020 ballot, any of whom would be a far better leader of the country than the current president.” said Julia Bryan, Chair, Democrats Abroad. “Democrats Abroad is looking forward to a fair and open primary process, and we invite US Democrats around the world to participate in our Global Presidential Primary in March.”

For many US citizens abroad, the Global Presidential Primary (March 3-10) is the only chance they’ll have to cast a ballot in-person during the 2020 elections. Voters living outside the US generally vote remotely, sending their ballots back to the US. The one exception is the Global Presidential Primary.

“The Global Presidential Primary ensures Americans abroad have the opportunity to easily participate in the Democratic primary process while also bringing our unique issues to the attention of Democratic presidential candidates,” explained Bryan. “Democrats Abroad is representative of the millions of Democratic voters living abroad and voting in all 50 states; we welcome participation by the wide range of citizens living outside the US who share the core values of the Democratic Party, and we are making every effort to engage more Americans living abroad than ever before.”

All US citizens living outside the United States may participate in the primary, provided they are eligible to vote, are 18 or older by November 3rd 2020, and are Democrats Abroad members.

The Global Presidential primary will take place in over 100 locations around the world, with postal and online voting options available as well. Democrats Abroad recommends that interested Americans join the organization now in order to receive reminders about how they can participate in the Global Presidential Primary.
