🌟From your DAJ National Officers!
Summer is in full swing, but it will be autumn before we know it. Your Executive Committee has been working on VoteFromAbroad advertising efforts, reaching as many US citizens living in Japan as we can to inform them of their right to vote and make their voices be heard this November. Have you registered to vote and requested your absentee ballot yet? Deadlines are fast approaching, so if you haven't yet, register and request today at www.votefromabroad.org.
Additionally, global phonebanking campaigns in Democrats Abroad will start on August 14th, where we will contact our members to remind and mobilize them to vote. These calls have proven effective in voter turnout, so if you're interested in doing more and helping to amplify the democratic overseas vote, please consider phonebanking this summer into the fall.

DAJ Special Election
Thank you all for participating in the 2024 DAJ Special Election. Ballots were counted on July 8th at 7pm, and the full results can be viewed here.
We would like to congratulate Marshall Klassen for being elected to the position of Member at Large for Hokkaido!
As stated in the full results news post linked above, upon contacting the prospective winner of the National Secretary election, they have elected to not fill the position. In accordance with the bylaws and guidance from the DA International Counsel and Asia-Pacific Regional Vice Chair, since the nominee accepted the nomination during the nomination period, there is a presumption of acceptance if they were to be elected. Therefore, the act of the individual declining to fill the position must be treated as a resignation, and accordingly, a new election must be held to fill the newly vacant National Secretary seat.
On July 11th, a new Nomination and Elections Committee (NEC) was appointed and formed for this second special election, and the members are as follows:
- Raymond Terhune
- Patrick Shumaker
- Rachel DePalma
Stay tuned for more details regarding the schedule and other information.
