Détendu And Ludique: DAL Discussion Group
Members of Democrats Abroad-Lyon would like to bring people together for discussions once a month. It's an open-subject format where 2 or 3 participants will prepare a 5-15 minute presentation on a subject of their own choosing, and we will all discuss it with the rest of the group.
Our first meeting will be held at a private residence near Charpennes from 19h-21h30 on Thursday, March 8, 2018. This is a free event. Soft drinks will be provided, and it would be nice if everyone brought a snack but it's not mandatory.
We already have two short presentations planned for this evening:
– “Two hundred fifty years of slavery. Ninety years of Jim Crow. Sixty years of separate but equal. Thirty-five years of racist housing policy. Until we reckon with our compounding moral debts, America will never be whole.” : A brief summary of Ta-Nehisi Coates' investigative reporting piece which was published in The Atlantic magazine, "The Case For Reparations".
– French Laïcité: A Historical Context and the Current Debate on French Secularism.
Space is limited so please RSVP at email@example.com. Let us know if you would like to make a presentation or simply join in on the conversation. If for any reason you must cancel, please let us know quickly so that we can offer your place to others or schedule a different speaker.
We hope that this initial varied format will spur the evolution of more profound discussions in future meetings, where the subject on a given evening is specific and the presentation is more in-depth. We welcome your suggestions and need your participation!
Call for Submissions: What are you curious about? Do you have expertise to share? Do you want to make an argument for something that you are passionate about? Do you want to study a new subject and give a presentation on what you have learned? Do a book report! We have a list of topics if you need an idea. We don't intend for this to be limited to politics.
So, what do you want to talk about?WHENMarch 08, 2018 at 7pmWHERERSVP for Address

Democrats Abroad Lyon invites you join us at Bibliothèque Municipale de Lyon as we visit its temporary exhibit dedicated to the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The exhibit is in three parts: From slavery to the March on Washington, the life of MLK, and his visit to Lyon in 1966. Our visit will be followed by a discussion at MiWaM, the café inside the library, where we will ask ourselves "Is the Dream Broken?" Meet at the entrance to the exhibit, first floor.

Some you’ve probably heard of while others you may not.
These groups provide a fun and challenging yet important opportunity for you to help us help you. Regardless of where you live there is a caucus, committee or task force that needs your talent and dedication. This is the time to join fellow Democrats and be a part of something that matters.

Vice Chair Democrats Abroad Lyon
Like many Democrats, I was mobilised to action after the 2016 elections. Joining Democrats Abroad and participating in the formation of the Lyon chapter has provided me with the ideal platform to actively participate in the Resistance. But DALyon is more than that. We have an engaged, diverse group of members who contribute to a rich exchange of ideas and activities. I am admin for the DALyon Facebook Page and Group. As such, I try to keep the conversation lively! Originally from Philadelphia, I grew up in the New York suburbs and spent most of my adult life in New York City, that is, until I left in 1995 to pursue a career in International Marketing. I lived first in London, then Paris, Lyon, Toronto, Lyon, Paris. Now settled in the Lyon area, our Franco-American family (my husband, 3 teenagers and our Golden Retriever - Cookie) are based in the Ouest Lyonnais in Tassin la Demi-Lune.
