The DA Caribbean Islands crew is under full sail!
The Crew Grew
Crucial for ensuring member representation within our multinational and multi-island committee are our Island Representatives. We now have Representatives in the island nations/territories of Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Grenada, St Lucia, St Martin/Sint Maarten, and St Vincent & the Grenadines. Interested in representing your island not listed here? Contact Kristin at [email protected]
Our Executive Committee has also filled up, from having only two positions filled in 2024 to currently having a nearly full slate. See details on our Leaders page: https://www.democratsabroad.org/t1_leaders.
Two positions — Secretary and Programs & Events Coordinator — are still open. Interested? Contact Kristin at [email protected]
We Held Events
From the start of last year, online events open to all DA Caribbean Islands members included “De-Mystifying Democrats Abroad” with a chance to meet DA global leaders and learn more about our work. At our most recent AGMs, we hosted speakers Dana Freling, Chair of Democrats Abroad’s Environment and Climate Crisis Council, and Heather Kashner, Chief Operating Officer at the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee. Volunteers on the island of Bequia in St Vincent & the Grenadines held DA Caribbean Islands’ very first live Global Presidential Primary event. In the run-up to the 2024 elections, Island Representatives gave interviews, hosted watch parties for the debates, and manned voter information tables. Island Representatives from Barbados and St Maarten, and the Cayman Islands, hosted an online panel discussion on the intersection of Reparations and Climate Change (www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKUakJNLNOg).
Actions Were Taken
As election season 2024 heated up, DA Caribbean Islands spread information about overseas citizens’ right to vote and how to request, receive and return overseas ballots, by using email blasts, social media posts, distribution of posters and flyers, press releases, TV and radio interviews, and Zoom meetings. Representatives on various islands also hosted information and registration tables, held watch parties, and phoned members through CallHub.
We’re Not Stopping!
We have more online meetings, speakers and events in store, and we look forward to seeing you there. Notices of volunteer opportunities will be coming up.
