Protest Singing Circle Workshop
**WE ARE POSTPONING THIS EVENT. WE WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN WE HAVE A NEW DATE!!**
Hosted by Democrats Abroad Hamburg
Led by: Elaine Thomas – Vocalist, Performer & Workshop Leader
Throughout history, music has united voices, inspired change, and fueled movements. In this workshop, we’ll come together as a community to explore the powerful tradition of protest songs—from classic civil rights anthems to contemporary calls for justice—and to raise our voices in solidarity.
This is not a performance or a rehearsal. It’s a participatory singing circle where everyone is welcome, regardless of musical experience. You’ll learn and sing a selection of traditional American protest songs, explore their history and meaning, and even have space to reflect on current issues in the U.S. that matter most to you.
We will:
-
Learn iconic songs that shaped political and social movements
-
Discuss the messages behind the music and their relevance today
-
Share personal thoughts and concerns in a safe, inclusive setting
-
Create space for new verses or messages inspired by today’s struggles
Whether you sing boldly or just hum along, your presence matters. This is a space for healing, empowerment, and collective expression—because when we sing together, we stand together.
No singing experience required. Just bring your voice, your heart, and your hope.
