US TAXES - IRA'S, GIFTING, ESTATE PLANNING
RSVPPresenter is: Charmaine Ko, Polaris Tax Counsel, cross-border tax lawyer
While the Canadian Income Tax Act contains certain provisions which can permit a tax-neutral transfer of an IRA to an RRSP, the process is not without its pitfalls, and the right conditions must be in place for such transfers to occur on a tax-neutral basis. This webinar will provide an overview of the relevant rules and provide some examples of when a tax-neutral transfer may and may not be possible.
This webinar will also provide an overview of the basics of the US gift and estate tax regimes and the US lifetime gift and estate tax exemption, with consideration to the application of the Canada-US Tax Treaty.
The ticket price to this event is $10 USD. We chose this price point realizing that many of our members might like to attend one, two, or three of our sessions and we wanted to select a ticket price that was reasonable. We would expect that the last session on Business owners would attract its own, individual audience. If you feel the ticket price is beyond your means at this time, please contact us at [email protected] and we will make an arrangement to accommodate.
The event will be recorded. Only people who purchase a ticket will receive the recording. If you cannot make the event, but would like a recording, please purchase a ticket in advance.
We would like all those RSVPing to know that tickets are non-refundable.
Funds collected for these sessions will provide us with important support for our GOTV efforts in 2022. Every dollar donated = four more CallHub calls or 10 texts to members. It all matters and it all adds up.
Please do consider joining the Canadian $5/month recurring donation campaign by going to:
- USD donations: DemocratsAbroad.org
- Canadian funds donations: Democratsabroad.ca and that donation is managed in Canadian funds.
And I would be remiss if I didn’t add that donations larger than $10 or $5 are always welcome and appreciated. We ARE an all volunteer organization with a goal to assist ALL American voters overseas to vote in US elections. It is not an understatement to say that these times call for all Democrats to step up and participate in democracy.
Don’t forget to go to votefromabroad.org to fill in your FPCA to register and request your ballot. Using VFA to get your ballot offers protections not available to overseas voters who request their ballots directly from their local election office.
