Democrats Abroad, Russia is proud to invite you to an informal dinner lecture and discussion with visiting Georgetown tax law professor, and practicing tax lawyer, Stafford Smiley, on "The New U.S. Tax Law as it Applies to International Operations and Whether the Law is Living up To Economic Expectations."   

Stafford Smiley holds a BA from Yale and a JD with honors from Harvard.  He is a Professor in the Graduate Tax Program of the Georgetown Law Center and Senior Counsel of the law firm of Caplin &Drysdale.  He specializes in the taxation of corporate and non-corporate business entities, inter-generational wealth planning and international transactions. He is currently in Moscow teaching an international tax planning course at Pericles Law Center, and has also been a Visiting Professor at the University of Lodz in Poland, at MGIMO here in Moscow, as well as in graduate tax programs in Austria, Australia and Brazil.  Prior to becoming a tax law specialist he was an analyst in US/Soviet relations, and while in university he studied in St. Petersburg.
