In the Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary, you and thousands of expats like you can help choose the 2020 Democratic nominee for President of the United States! You can vote in person or remotely, but if you are in Moscow don’t miss the fun of voting in person!
Every vote counts!

To vote in person: Join us in Moscow on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020 anytime from 4pm until 8pm at Starlight Diner at Oktyabraskaya Metro. Preferably bring your U.S. passport, to verify that you are a US citizen; but if you don’t have your U.S. passport available, be ready to certify that you are a US citizen. RSVP here .

To vote remotely: Make sure you are a member of Democrats Abroad before February 18, make sure you have not opted out of emails, and look for your primary ballot in your email inbox on February 18, 2020. You then have to vote that ballot by email by March 10 or by snail mail, provided it is received by Democrats Abroad by March 11. If you don't receive your ballot by email, you can download it from the Democrats Abroad website.

Who is eligible to participate in the Global Presidential Primary?

• You must be a U.S. citizen
• You must be a member of Democrats Abroad
• You must be at least 18 years old or turning 18 years old by November 3, 2020
• You must not have voted, or plan to vote, in your 2020 state presidential primary

What if I’m not a member of Democrats Abroad?
You can sign up today at http://www.democratsabroad.org/join, or come in person to the Moscow primary and we can help you sign up on the spot for Democrats Abroad Russia chapter before you cast your ballot. (Make sure you know your Russian address and phone number to sign up on the spot.)

Who’s running in the Global Presidential Primary?
The following candidates have registered to be considered in the Global Presidential Primary: Michael Bennett, Joe Biden, Michael Bloomburg, Pete Buttigieg, Tulsi Gabbard, Amy Klobuchar, Deval Patrick, Bernie Sanders, Tom Steyer, Elizabeth Warren, and Andrew Yang. If you don’t see your favored candidate running here, then that’s a time when you might want to check your state’s primary and if your person is running there, then vote in your state instead.

The why should I participate in the Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary instead of voting in my state’s presidential primary?
While tens of thousands of people will participate in the Global Presidential Primary, millions will vote in your home state. That means that, as an individual, your primary vote with Democrats Abroad is more powerful than if you were to vote in your state. Plus, as Americans living abroad, we tend to have similar political concerns—such as the candidate’s positions in international relations for example. Thus, your favored candidate is more likely to win than if you vote in your state where political interests are likely to be more diverse. Besides, if you can vote in person in Moscow, it’s a chance to grab dinner out, to socialize with other Democrats in Moscow, and to teach your kids about the American electoral process.

What if I’m just visiting Russia but am a member of another Democrats Abroad Country Committee?
To vote in person in Moscow you must be a member of the Russia chapter, meaning you have to reside primarily in Russia. So if you are a member of Democrats Abroad residing in another country, unfortunately you have to vote in the primary in that country, or vote the remote ballot you receive from Democrats Abroad on February 18. You are welcome, however, to come to the primary in Moscow to socialize and meet other American Democrats.

Can I vote in the Global Presidential Primary and also in my state’s primary?
Yes and No. You can only vote for the Democratic presidential candidate once. That means that if you vote in the Global Presidential Primary but also want to vote in your state for the other races (such as for your congressperson) you can do so, but you must skip the presidential question on your state’s ballot.

I have already requested received my overseas absentee primary ballots for this year from my state. Can I still vote in the Global Presidential Primary?
Yes, as long as you haven’t cast your vote for President on your ballot from your state.
