Memorial Day Ceremony: Join DA Strasbourg in honoring those who gave their lives defending democracy

Every year, Democrats Abroad France remembers the fallen soldiers who fought and died while serving in the US Armed Forces.  DA France will be laying wreaths on the graves of these heroes in ceremonies throughout France.

Our DA Strasbourg chapter will be participating in two of these ceremonies in Eastern France:

Epinal American Cemetery (10:30 am)

385, rue de la Rondenolle, 88000 Dinozé

Lorraine American Cemetery, St Avold (11:00 am)

Avenue de Fayetteville, 57500 St Avold

Attendance is free of charge and open to the public. Ride-sharing to Epinal and St Avold is available. If you would like a seat at the ceremony and/or need - or can offer - transport, please RSVP ASAP.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

 John McCrae, May 1915
