IMPORTANT: DA Canada AGM - New Date April 2, 2017
Dear DA Canada Members:
On February 24, DA Canada emailed all members a Notice of AGM & Election 2017 & Bylaw Amendments, with the Meeting to be held on Sunday, March 26 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm Eastern Time. The Notice included the text of the proposed Bylaw Amendments. The DA Canada Bylaws also require that proposed Bylaw Amendments be posted on the DA website for 30 days prior to the Meeting. Unfortunately, due to an inadvertent oversight, the Bylaw Amendments were not posted on the DA website until March 3, seven (7) days later.
To provide the full 30 days posting period specified in the Bylaws, the DA Canada AGM & Election 2017 & Bylaw Amendments Meeting will be moved forward seven (7) days to: Sunday, April 2, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time.
Accordingly the following deadlines are also advanced by seven (7) days:
*To vote, you must have joined Democrats Abroad by 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time on 16 March 2017
*Electronic ballots will be emailed to members on 17 March 2017
*Completed ballots must be submitted by 11:59 pm Eastern Daylight Time on 1 April 2017

What: ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 2017
Purpose: To inform you about the year’s activities and the accomplishments of your country committee & amendments to the bylaws & to elect the following Board Members for a two-year term: Country Chair, Executive Vice-Chair, Vice-Chairs, Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Secretary, IT Manager , Counsel, Members-at-Large. The AGM agenda will follow at a later date.
When: SUNDAY, APRIL 2, 2017 | 2:00 – 4:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time.
Where: Participating in the DA Canada AGM via WebEx requires pre-registration due to WebEx limited capacity on the number of participants. Upon registration you will receive WebEx instructions and information. Look for announcements from your chapter or contact your chapter chair for in-person local chapter meetings. How: For Members not yet signed up to WebEx, the video conferencing system used by Democrats Abroad, upon registration you will receive WebEx instructions and information for downloading the necessary software.
More Election Information: If your chapter is participating in the AGM, you may vote in-person then. Contact your Chapter Chair for information. Or you may vote online. The electronic ballots will be emailed to members on March 17, 2017. Submit your completed ballot by 11:59PM EDT April 1, 2017. To vote you must have joined Democrats Abroad by 11:59PM EDT March 16, 2017, you must be a member of DACA, a US citizen of voting age and a resident of Canada. PROPOSED BYLAWS AMENDMENTS: 15.1 The DPCA Voting Representatives shall represent the views of DACA at the international meetings of the DPCA. The number of voting members is based on country membership and other factors and is determined by the DPCA. The Country Chair and the Executive Vice Chair are Voting Representatives by virtue of their offices. (new) All DPCA voting members pledge to attend the Annual DPCA meetings or may timely proxy their vote to another board member or a member of their chapter board. while additional Voting Representatives are to be elected by DACA membership. However, with the exception of the Country Chair and Executive Vice Chair, any additional DACA Voting Representatives are non-voting members of the Board and are not counted to determine the quorum for Board meetings. DPCA Voting Representatives are elected to a two-year term.
15.2 (new) DACA voting representatives to the Democratic Party Committee Abroad (DPCA) shall be members of the DACA Board, its Officers, Members at Large, IT Manager and Chapter Chairs who are in office May 1st of each election year. Each voting representative shall share an equal portion of the voting allocation assigned to it by the DPCA in February of the same year.
21.1 The Officers, Members at Large, and the IT Manager and the DPCA Voting Representatives shall be elected by a simple majority of votes of the members voting in person, by electronic ballot, by mail or by teleconference at the biennial AGM. If there is a tie vote, a subsequent ballot shall be held at the same meeting with only members present, in-person or by teleconference, voting.
