Democrats Abroad's book club meets both in Hellerup and in Aarhus on the third Tuesday of each month. September's meetings will be on Tuesday, the 17th, from 6:30-8:30 pm. Our Copenhagen area club will continue to be at Books & Company in Hellerup (Sofievej 1, 2900 Hellerup). Our Jutland meeting will again be at Dokk1 (Hack Kampmanns Plads 2, 8000 Aarhus C). For both locations, suggested (but not required) cash contributions of 50 kr. will be gladly accepted, but only from US citizens.
Our September read is Fatima Farheen Mirza’s A Place for Us. Please note that you are welcome to attend the book club in either location if you’ve read the whole book, only part of the book, or none of the book. Either way, you will find engaging conversation and snacks. For October, we are reading How to Be an Anti-Racist, by Ibram X. Kendi, and for November, we've chosen Colson Whitehead’s The Nickel Boys.
As always, please bring in ideas for future readings, both fiction and non-fiction, to add to our list of possibilities – we consult this list when choosing future book club choices. A small number of book club books will be available for purchase at our First Tuesday event.
You can register in advance for any book club event, and also get on the book club mailing list by e-mailing Kim Chopin at email@example.com. We will aim to make the discussions available on-line if interest exists. All book club selections can be purchased in advance at Books & Company, who offer a 10% discount on these titles to book club members. Please visit or call them (+45 3930 4045) to order your copies. They can mail books nationwide for the cost of the book plus postage.
