Who We Are

Democrats Abroad is the official Democratic Party arm for the millions of Americans living outside the United States. We strive to provide Americans abroad a Democratic voice in our government and elect Democratic candidates by mobilizing the overseas vote.

Democrats Abroad has 55 country committees throughout Europe, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. These country committees keep Americans abroad informed of their rights and help them participate in the U.S. political process. Our members live in more than 190 countries around the globe and vote in every state and Congressional district in the U.S.

Democrats Abroad is recognized as a "state" party by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and is represented on the DNC by eight voting members, as well as at the quadrennial Democratic National Convention.

Our online voter registration tool - votefromabroad.org - makes it easy to request a ballot and vote absentee from any place on the planet.

FAQs for the 2020 Global Presidential Primary

Don’t miss your chance to vote in person this presidential year! Join Americans around the world and participate in this year’s Global Presidential Primary through Democrats Abroad. Details below. Who is eligible to participate? Democrats Abroad has just a few requirements for voting in the primary: Be abroad and be a U.S. citizen Be a member of Democrats Abroad Be 18 as of November 3, 2020 Not have voted, or plan to vote, in any other 2020 state presidential primary When can I vote?  Starting February 18th, you can download your ballot from the Democrats Abroad website and vote from over 197 countries! If you'd like to vote in person, our in-person events kick off on Super Tuesday -  March 3rd - and run til March 10th. What if I’m not a member of Democrats Abroad? You can sign up today, or anytime up until you’re about to vote. How can I vote in the Democrats Abroad primary? You can vote in person or online. If you’d like to vote in person, head here to check out the list of official events. We’re holding more than 220 events in 45 countries around the world starting March 3rd. If you can’t join us in person, as long as you’re a member of Democrats Abroad, you can also vote remotely. Look for your primary ballot in your inbox on February 18, and you can also download the ballot from Democratsabroad.org starting on that date.  I vote in California. Can I vote in the Global Presidential Primary and the California primary? You can only vote in a presidential primary one time. If you vote in the GPP, but also want to vote in California for the down-ballot primary races (such as for your congressperson), you can! Just don't vote for a presidential candidate on your California ballot. I've already received my overseas absentee ballots for this year from California. Why should I participate in the GPP instead of voting in the California presidential primary? While tens of thousands of people will participate in the GPP this year, millions will vote in your home state. That means that your vote in the Global Presidential Primary is more powerful than if you were to vote in California - in fact, it’s 4 times more powerful! Who will win the Global Presidential Primary? That’s up to you to decide! We’ll be announcing the results of our primary on March 23, so stay tuned. I have questions about voting abroad. Please email gotv@democratsabroad.org so we can help!

    Watch the Film Legalize Equality

The Equal Rights Amendment resolution passed unanimously in Tokyo where we committed to do whatever we can to help get the ERA ratified.  See the resolution here.

Watch the video "Legalize Equality."  This 30-minute video gives an excellent overview of the Equal Rights Amendment and why it is critical to be ratified.

You can watch the video until 31 December 2020 or the ERA passes.

To receive the streaming link and password, click RSVP and you will receive an email with the information in it.

Feel free to share the link and password to DA members that want to view it.  However, please do NOT post the link and password on the internet in any way.  Only Democrats Abroad has access for this private screening and we need to honor this special access given by Equal Means Equal and Heroica Films.

A Democrats Abroad Global Women’s Caucus Event Toolkit

January is Women’s Rights Month! The fourth Women’s March will take place on January 18th, 2020. This year’s theme will be “March for our Human Rights.” GWC can think of no more fundamental human right than to have sovereignty over one’s own body.
We encourage members to participate in marches that will take place around the world and/or plan group meetings around the theme of reproductive rights throughout the month of January and beyond!

To help organize your own events, we have put together a  GWC Reproductive Rights Event Toolkit.  All members are invited to choose elements from this collection of activity and event ideas to build their own unique events around our theme.

We are also grateful to NARAL/Pro-Choice America for making their great materials available to us!

All you have to do is click, get inspired and organize!

For help, more suggestions and to share your event info and photos, please contact us at: womenscaucus@democratsabroad.org
