BARCELONA – Democrats Abroad Barcelona continues its efforts for every American in Catalunya to vote for Joe Biden. The U.S. Presidential Election is now underway until Nov. 3, and our organization will not rest until all citizens have voted.
This is by far the most important American election of our lifetimes. It is important not only to win the presidency but also the Senate and to retain the Democratic majority in the lower house of Congress. Democrats Abroad has tried to contact all possible U.S. voters in Catalunya and across Spain (nearly 40,000 people) to help them register and then send their ballots.
In 2016 less than 7% of eligible U.S. voters overseas participated in the election. So far the response has increased close to 300%. The reason for this huge surge is overwhelming disgust at the failures and corruption of the Trump-Pence administration. Our members tell us that their Catalan and Spanish friends and neighbors have been urging Americans to get rid of Trump. So, our success in reaching voters is in part due to the reaction of Catalans and Spaniards across the country. For this we thank them.
Democrats Abroad is organized in over 190 countries. It works to reach the roughly 6M Americans living outside of the US. It has created the website VoteFromAbroad.org which is open to Democrats and non-Democrats. This on-line tool is essential to help voters cope with managing the different voting rules of each of the 50 states. After the election, our campaign will continue to ensure that all votes are properly counted.
