VOTE NO (twice) on August 13

This week, Wisconsin voters have a chance to vote on two crucial proposed amendments (changes) to the state’s constitution. In both cases, we urge Wisconsinites to VOTE NO.

The two proposed amendments concern who has the power to accept and allocate federal funds. In real terms, a yes vote would dramatically slow down the process. This would be hugely problematic in emergency situations, like natural disasters, when the federal government makes funds available for Wisconsinites in trouble. But there are plenty of other great reasons to VOTE NO. Read about them here.

Here is how the VOTE NO campaign frames the issues:

Right now the governor and the legislature must work together to decide how to distribute most federal funds in Wisconsin. But these two misleading Constitutional Amendments would actually strip power away from the governor and give the sole power to the legislature. Instead of the checks and balances we currently have, these confusing Amendments would be a political power grab, giving the legislature the sole power to decide how federal funds should be spent.”

So please vote, and please VOTE NO on both constitutional amendments, and encourage your folks back home to do the same.
