Communications

The Comms team is in search of a MANAGING EDITOR for the news section of democratsabroad.org,
Time commitment: 2 hours on-boarding; Weekly: 1 hour for weekly Comms meeting; max 2 hours weekly follow up

Skill set: Experience managing a content-based website or small/med online media, which includes helping to ideate and project manage the development of website articles. This includes following up with writers on developing and finalizing website content, proofreading and optimizing these articles, and working closely with the Communications Chair throughout. For more information, contact comms@democratsabroad.org

The Communications team is also looking for a PRESS COORDINATOR for global Democrats Abroad media activities.

Time commitment: 1 hour on-boarding; Weekly: 1 hour for weekly Comms meeting; max 1 additional hour most weeks, but this increases at peak times (eg worldwide protest weekend, elections)

Skill set: Experience in press coordination, from developing relationships with media to maintaining talking points tailored for DA, to promptly responding to media requests and liaising with the right spokespeople. Currently most media relations are handled at a local level, but occasional requests do come through at a global level. Note this is not a spokesperson role but based on coordinating with our designated spokespeople. However, experience working as a spokesperson, as well as in media, is certainly valuable.

Due to the location of most of our media outlets, as well as the locations of DA leaders, the ideal press coordinator would be located in Western European or Eastern Americas time zones (between UTC+2 and UTC-5, inclusive). For more information, contact comms@democratsabroad.org

The Communications team is also looking for a SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER for global Democrats Abroad social pages.

Time commitment: 1 hour on-boarding; Weekly: 1 hour for weekly Comms meeting; 2hrs /week for content planning and community management (volunteers rotate per day when it comes to managing content and comments on our global Facebook channel).

Skill set: Experience in Facebook content and community management, tailoring posts for targeted audiences, and understanding basic social analytics and optimizing based on those analytics. Added advantage if you have basic design or experience managing paid digital campaigns. In the interest of diversifying our voices, preference is for the volunteer for this role to be based in the Americas or Asia, although volunteers from EMEA outside our largest country committees would also be considered. For more information, contact comms@democratsabroad.org
