Virtual Learning Session 3 - Indigenous Land Rights Movements in the USA & East Africa

Virtual Learning Session #3: Indigenous Land Rights Movements in the U.S. & East Africa

In our third virtual session, we explore how questions of land, sovereignty, and justice have shaped both the United States and East Africa. From independence-era debates to modern struggles for recognition, we’ll look at how East African nations addressed land rights after colonial rule—and what parallels and lessons these histories offer for Americans reflecting on their own nation’s colonial legacy.

Participants will gain insights into:

  • How East African nations navigated land redistribution and ownership after independence

  • The role of Indigenous movements in reclaiming land and identity in the U.S.

  • What Americans can learn from global approaches to land justice and reconciliation

By focusing on discussion, reflection, and audience dialogue, we hope to spark a meaningful conversation about history, belonging, and what decolonisation means for Americans today. We will start with brief introductions by panelists, followed by a moderated discussion, then Q&A townhall style from the audience, and a small group reflection.

Come join us for a fascinating discussion! Hope to see you there! RSVP at democratsabroad.org/ke_events
