Annual General Meeting - Schladern, NRW
January 29-31, 2016
Many of you have contributed your time or your money to Democrats Abroad, or the Democratic Party, over the past few years to help get Democrats elected – some of you for much, much longer. With President Obama’s last State of the Union address this coming Tuesday, it is time to reflect on what kind of commitment it took to win the White House – and then to win it again four years later. And at the end of January, it will be time for Democrats Abroad Germany to be FIRED UP, READY TO GO... all over again.
This year’s DA Germany Annual General Meeting (AGM) is going to be special. Not only do we have the honor of welcoming DA’s International Chair, Katie Solon, as our guest speaker at Saturday night’s dinner, we will also be entertained by a group of artists from the NRW region arranged by Steve Nobles. It’s a great opportunity to get to know other like-minded Americans from across Germany, discuss our work over the past year, and lay the groundwork for our Get Out The Vote (GOTV) efforts for the 2016 presidential election. We’d love to have you join us and support our work in this most important election year!
The AGM’s Saturday sessions will focus on training our leadership and super-volunteers for the coming Global Presidential Primary (March 1-8, 2016) and for our various GOTV activities in 2016. We will also discuss the Delegate Selection Plan for this year’s Democratic National Convention, how the process works, and the guidelines for running for delegate to represent DA in Philadelphia in July. We will also have training sessions on the new DA website and database. The seriousness of the work at our meeting and for the year ahead lend themselves to the quiet, rural location of Schladern an der Sieg (Windeck). The NRW Chapter and our various precincts would love to welcome you to this beautiful area of the country!
Schladern is located in the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis, east of Bonn. Schladern (Gemeinde Windeck) is 25 minutes from Siegburg-Bonn (ICE Bahnhof) and 45 minutes from Cologne Hauptbahnhof by Regional Express train (RE9). The S12 follows the same route but is slower because it makes additional stops. The area is known for its hiking trails and mountain biking, and its main attractions are the Burgruine Alt-Windeck, local waterfalls, and the Elmores beer garden. The castle is about a half-hour walk through the woods behind the town, and the waterfalls are right behind the venue, the Bergischer Hof.
With Democratic Greetings from Schladern an der Sieg!
