Dem Debate Watch -- Join Us, June 26 and 27, at the George Hamilton Restaurant, 152 King Street West
DEBATE WATCH -- JUNE 26 & 27
Everyone is invited to join Dems Abroad to watch and discuss the first debates among Democratic candidates for the Presidential nomination. The top twenty candidates will present in the debates, with ten each night. These first debates are widely expected to shape the field of candidates for the rest of campaign.
We'll gather at the George Hamilton restaurant at 152 King Street West at Bay Street in downtown Hamilton. Doors open at 8:30 pm; the debates are scheduled to begin at 9 pm. American citizens will be able to register to vote at the event both nights -- and to join Democrats Abroad if they wish. Drinks and pub food will be available at cost. The event itself is open to the public at no charge.
Today (June 12) is the final deadline for nationally recognized polls which are needed by the Dem hopefuls to qualify for inclusion in the debates. The final information on who will be included in the debates will be available tomorrow. Virginia has blocked the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment since it first passed Congress in 1972. We can change that this year. Here's how:
All seats in the Virginia House of Delegates and Senate are up for election on November 5. We need to flip the Republican-dominated State House which shamefully shot down the Equal Rights Amendment once again earlier this year despite it having passed in the Republican-controlled State Senate. Come join us in writing 400 post cards to 400 specific voters in the district of the House committee chair who has blocked the E.R.A. for the past several years. We can help Democrat Sheila Bynum-Coleman win and assure that the E.R.A. will finally be ratified to bring legal equality to women in the U.S.A.
Dems Abroad is working with www.VAratifyERA.org. Learn more there.
Please RSVP if you can come help write postcards to flip the Virginia State House so we can finally pass the E.R.A. Contact Denise Roig for exact address.
This will also help the National Popular Vote interstate compact be passed in Virginia as well, which will lead to obviating the fundamentally undemocratic Electoral College -- another goal of Democrats Abroad.
