Candidate Statements for the 2023 DA France Youth Caucus Steering Committee Elections

2023 DA FRANCE YOUTH CAUCUS ELECTION CANDIDATES

The nominations and call for candidates period for the 2023 DA France Youth Caucus Elections has now closed. Please find below statements for the candidates standing for election for the four officer positions — two Co-Chair, two Communications Officers, two Events Officers, and two Political Engagement Officers. As announced, there will be two officers elected for each officer position.

The DA France Youth Caucus Election will take place in person and via Zoom on Monday March 13 at 7PM -RSVP here.

All members of the DA France Youth Caucus will receive an email containing a link to the ballot, which may be used for early voting. Those who attend the Election and Meeting will have the chance to hear from the candidates before voting. Results will be tabulated and announced during the meeting.

New members are welcome to join and vote — please do so by March 12. You must be a U.S. citizen living overseas and at least 18 years old at the time of the next federal election to join Democrats Abroad, and be living in France to vote in this election (join here: https://www.democratsabroad.org/join), and also be a youth member (35 and younger) of the Global Youth Caucus (join here: https://www.democratsabroad.org/yc).

Questions? Contact the Youth Caucus Election Board at [email protected].

The elections will be decided by a plurality of votes (the candidate who gets the most votes in the election wins). DAF does not accept proxy votes. Since there is an early online voting process, nominations from the floor during the in-person election event will not be accepted. The ballot includes a space for write-in candidates for all positions.

CO-CHAIR CANDIDATES

Sally Richardson

My name is Sarah (Sally) Richardson and I am running for Co-chair of DAF youth caucus. I have lived in France for 4 years and am passionate about registering U.S. voters from abroad. As Co-chair I would work closely with the DAF youth caucus steering committee and DAF leadership to make a two-year game plan on how we can effectively register the greatest amount of voters and ensure they turn in their ballots. I would also work to make connections with global leadership of DA to make sure we have the infrastructure and tools to execute our voter registration plans. I look forward to working with you all in any capacity that I can!

Mallory Boyd

My name is Mallory and I am a 21-year-old college student born and raised in Rochester Hills, Michigan. I would like to announce my candidacy for a Co-chair position in the Democrats Abroad France Youth Caucus!

Before I moved to Paris for university in 2019, I volunteered and interned for Elissa Slotkin’s 2018 congressional campaign. I was incited to volunteer after organising protests and school walk-outs in the wake of the Parkland mass shooting. Even though I was only 17, I worked to implore people in my community to vote on my behalf, and on behalf of my generation.

I am currently a student of PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics) and Psychology at the American University of Paris and am planning to graduate this May.

Last Spring after participating in the demonstrations against gun violence and the overturning of abortion rights, I was inspired to become more active in the Democrats Abroad Youth Caucus. It was incredibly fulfilling to work on GOTV last Fall, and I would love to continue organising projects and initiatives to encourage further participation among young ex-pats in France. My participation in student government has demonstrated to me how many young Americans still desire to be politically active while abroad. I would love to see stronger, more permanent bonds formed with all universities that host American students and encourage them to remain politically engaged in both U.S. and French civic life.

Thank you so much for your consideration. Have a lovely rest of your week!

With love and rage,

Mallory Boyd

Ricky J. Marc

Hi. My name is Ricky J. Marc, current co-chair of the Youth Caucus. I’d like to offer myself for either a second term as co-chair or a new term as communications officer.

I believe that a better world is possible, and the youth of America--at home and abroad--is the key. I want to help make that happen. For more information about me, please visit rickyjmarc.com for an idea about my life story, political views, and media.

I look forward to a great election and a new generation of leadership. Thank you for trusting me with leadership these last few years.

COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER CANDIDATES

Liam Schradie

My name is Liam Schradie. I am announcing my candidacy to serve the Democrats Abroad Youth Caucus as a communications officer within the Steering Committee.

I came to this decision after thinking long and hard about my future within Democrats Abroad Paris. After interning in several organs of DA France, including the communications team, the Paris Chapter, and the Youth Caucus, my commitment to advance the interests of and serve the American youth community in France has been crystallized. Especially because of my decision to study abroad in Paris next year and move there after my degree is completed, I am motivated to devote my time and energy toward the success of the Youth Caucus.

In particular, I have chosen to run for Communications Officer because I believe this position to be where I am most able to contribute to the DA Youth Caucus. Indeed, I hold strong skills in written and oral communication from working as an International Chair within my university's admissions program, where I regularly answer questions from students about Georgetown and assist in social media outreach. In addition, I work as a student coordinator in the School of Foreign Service Career Center at my school, where I manage the team's email communications and regularly interact with high-level officials. As a result of frequent communication with supervisors and other student coordinators in these positions, I am very skilled in working as a member of a team.

Thank you for considering my candidacy for service in the Steering Committee of the DA Youth Caucus.

EVENTS OFFICER CANDIDATES

Queenie Lam

I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Event Officer position with DA France. As a graduate of UC Berkeley and a former fundraiser in Washington, D.C., I am confident in my ability to support DA’s events and bring new ideas to the table. Since moving to France alone, I’ve found such a wonderful group of friends in DA and my hope as an Event Officer is to create the same opportunities for other ex-pats to foster a community and partake in activities.

As a former fundraiser at The Kauffman Group, I have experience in organizing events for mostly Senator Brown and Merkley. In this position, I learned how to create graphics, research and book a venue, and invite individuals through email and phone outreach. During my time as a fundraiser, I successfully assisted in organizing events that raised over $27 million for various political campaigns. As a former Events Project Manager for the Undergraduate Marketing Association during my time at UC Berkeley, I have experience in brainstorming and creating a creative event outreach strategy, generating leads, and organizing campus-wide events. I believe my diverse experience makes me a strong candidate for the Event Officer position.

Mariamne Everett

My name is Mariamne and I am excited to announce my candidacy for Event officer. I think it would be great to take advantage of our connections with AP, AGS and other academic institutions to organise lectures and talks. Of course, fun activities are important as well and I think holding trivia nights and other unique events would be great! Thank you for your consideration.

POLITICAL ENGAGEMENT OFFICER CANDIDATES

Max Dunitz

My name is Max Dunitz, and I am running to serve on the youth caucus’s political engagement team. I have a lot of experience in campus organizing in the US, through the fossil fuel divestment movement and the local Democratic Party, as well as in France, where I have done campus voter assistance events every calendar year since my arrival in 2018. I previously served on the youth caucus steering committee from 2018 till 2021. I understand the challenges young people face in navigating an unfamiliar voting process and postal system, and I hope to continue working to make civic engagement as accessible as possible for all.

Sarah Kasha

I am excited to announce my candidacy for political engagement officer of the youth caucus. I have been volunteering to register voters for the last couple election cycles, and I am an official certified voting assistance officer. I helped organize the first tabling event at NYU, and I am excited to help expand GOTV efforts!

Thank you for your consideration.

Until voting is easy and justice is real,

Sarah Kasha
