A Saturday walk with Democrats Abroad through the beautiful vineyards and wine villages of the Lavaux region, from Lutry to Vevey. Justly designated a UNESCO world heritage site, the Lavaux is all steep south-facing vineyard-covered hillsides rising from Lac Leman, offering gorgeous views of the undulating countryside, the lake and facing Alps. We'll pass through centuries-old wine villages with their cafe terraces. This will be a 3.5-hour walk, approx 13km, plus an hour's picnic lunch pause. Those who want a shorter walk can stop at one of the eight train stations along the route. Wear layers and good walking shoes; we will not leave the paved roads. Rain date: Saturday March 11.

Public transport: Train RE, S1, S2, S3 or S4 to Lutry, or bus 9 to Lutry-Rive.  Car: Paid parking at Lutry.

RSVP, or contact Christine (email below or call ) to join the WhatsApp group for the Walk, for late details.

Our March 2023 book is Noise: A Flaw in Human Judgment by Daniel Kahneman, Olivier Sibony, and Cass R. Sunstein. From Amazon:

In Noise, Daniel Kahneman, Olivier Sibony, and Cass R. Sunstein show the detrimental effects of noise in many fields, including medicine, law, economic forecasting, forensic science, bail, child protection, strategy, performance reviews, and personnel selection. Wherever there is judgment, there is noise. Yet, most of the time, individuals and organizations alike are unaware of it. They neglect noise. With a few simple remedies, people can reduce both noise and bias, and so make far better decisions.

DACH Geneva Book Club - April 2023

    Pink_Girls_Weekend_Club_Facebook_Cover.png

Our April 2023 book is The Structure of Scientific Revolutions by Thomas S. Kuhn. From Amazon:

The Structure of Scientific Revolutions is a landmark in intellectual history which has attracted attention far beyond its own immediate field. It is written with a combination of depth and clarity that make it an almost unbroken series of aphorisms. Its author, Thomas S. Kuhn, wastes little time on demolishing the logical empiricist view of science as an objective progression toward the truth.

DACH Geneva Book Club - May 2023

    Pink_Girls_Weekend_Club_Facebook_Cover.png

Our May 2023 book is Why We're Polarized by Ezra Klein. From Amazon:

This New York Times and Wall Street Journal best seller shows us that America’s political system isn’t broken. The truth is scarier: It’s working exactly as designed. In this “superbly researched” (The Washington Post) and timely book, journalist Ezra Klein reveals how that system is polarizing us - and how we are polarizing it - with disastrous results.
