Our monthly meetings include working group reports, a preview of the coming month, and a fun activity (trivia, guest speaker, etc.). This month's presentation:
WHAT DOGE CUTS TO NASA MEAN FOR YOUR WEEKEND? Computational imaging involves using indirect measurements to infer a picture of what we cannot observe directly. Just as ultrasound or X-rays allow us to image tissues, satellites use electromagnetic waves to learn about Earth’s environment. We will show how these techniques allow us to “see” ocean currents and invisible methane plumes from space. These data are behind the dramatic improvements in weather forecasts over the past forty years, but that’s not stopping DOGE from shutting down programs and firing scientists en masse.
