Hope, Resistance and the Rule of Law Rally
Hope & Resistance-the Rule of Law
Please join our fellow DAN members, Americans of all political stripes, and Norwegian friends and colleagues in Oslo Eidsvolls Plass for the Rally for our Constitution & the Rule of Law, A Call to Action.
The rally will begin at 15:15 (set-up starts at 15:00) at Eidsvolls Plass in front of Stortinget and runs until 17:00.
After hearing DAN members’ requests during our March 11 town hall meeting, we chose the date, theme and place for the rally for two principal reasons: (1) that former president and constitutional law professor Barack Obama will be speaking in Oslo on the evening of May 12*; and (2) it precedes 17th of May, and that Norway’s constitution, crafted at Eidsvoll, was the first to be modeled after our 1787 constitution.
At the rally, we will hear from several speakers about the multiple threats the current administration in Washington poses to the constitutional order and the many violations of the rule and spirit of the law.
Thomas Seltzer staring in the NRKs TV series "UXA Thomas Seltzers America" will be one of our presenters (https://tv.nrk.no/serie/uxa-thomas-seltzers-amerika).
All speakers will also cover what we can do, individually and collectively, to help preserve our democracy beyond just the simple acts of petitioning our government and protesting its failures that are guaranteed to us under the First Amendment.
Other Speakers & topics:
Christina Skovsgaard (DA Norway Chair & Host): Welcome
Dr. Erica Gibson (Tech anthropologist): DOGE and the American surveillance state
David Morse (retired US Senate & White House staffer/professor): Voter suppression–the Save Act
Andrew Stites (retired Union lawyer): Challenges to the right to vote

If you are in or around Oslo on May 12, we urge you to join us for this important rally. And please invite at least 5 friends and/or family members to join you–it doesn’t matter if they are American or Norwegian. Please let us know if you will be there and how many friends you expect to join you by responding to the RSVP below.
If you will be heading to Oslo Spektrum after the rally, plan to bring your mama, then go see Obama.**
We look forward to seeing you at Stortinget on May 12.
*The rally is not planned or coordinated with, nor is it an endorsement of, President Obama’s appearance in Oslo. We have not invited him, nor do we expect him to join us.
**and your papa and all other interested relatives.
