US Citizens Residing in Taiwan (ROC): Make Your Voices Heard
Here is a concise summary for U.S. citizens living in Taiwan who want to vote in the upcoming U.S. federal elections:
1. Request Your Ballot:
- Complete a Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) after January 1, 2024, to request absentee ballots for all federal elections that year.
- Use the https://www.fvap.gov/fpca website to fill out, print, and sign the FPCA
- Or use https://www.votefromabroad.org/ to fill out your FPCA.
Opt for electronic delivery of ballots (email, internet, or fax), if available for your state.
2. Receive Your Ballot:
- States are required to send ballots 45 days before federal elections. You can confirm your registration and ballot delivery status online at https://www.fvap.gov/links
4. Return Your Completed Ballot:
- Some states allow electronic submission.
- For states requiring a paper ballot, you can drop off the ballot at AIT Taipei or AIT Kaohsiung during business hours, or mail it to:
American Citizen Services Unit, American Institute in Taiwan,
100 Jinhu Road, Neihu Dist., Taipei, 11461.
If you can’t visit AIT in person, you can mail the "postage paid" return envelopes (click here to create envelope) or envelopes bearing sufficient domestic U.S. postage that are addressed to local election officials and contain your ballot request or voted ballot to “American Citizen Services Unit, American Institute in Taiwan, 100 Jinhu Road, Neihu Dist., Taipei, 11461”. Please note that AIT will not confirm receipt. Please note that transit time can take up to 20 days. We recommend returning your ballot as soon as possible – and no later than October 3.
Be sure to enclose your ballot request form with the ballot, failure to do so could invalidate your ballot.
Taiwan offers courier services FedEx, DHL, and EMS.
Mail sent through these couriers may arrive in the States between 48 hours to a few days if sending your mail in ballot directly to your election office.
