BLUE (stands for Building Leaders and Uplifting the Electorate) Institute, was launched in 2015. It works across the South and Southwest (the fastest growing areas in the country), recognising that these regions provide tremendous opportunities for new electoral victories. They focus on bringing more young people of color to the leadership of progressive campaigns, in the belief that diversifying campaign staff to reflect constituencies is critical for winning new voting blocs. During the event we will speak to Ashely Robinson (Principal) and Genny Castillo (COO) about their work and the value and importance of investing in people of color in the campaign staff structure.
About our speakers:
Ashley Robinson, principal of BLUE, is responsible for the organization’s overall strategy and project implementation, working to ensure communities of color are equally represented in the leadership of campaigns nationwide. Ashley previously served as political director for gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, and Caucus Director & Chief of Staff for the Georgia House Democratic Caucus.
Genny Castillo is BLUE’s Chief Operating Officer. She organizes and executes outreach efforts, manages recruitment, coordinates messaging and directs volunteer and internship opportunities. Previously, Genny was Senior Political Advisor to the Abrams gubernatorial campaign and Director of Latinx Constituency for Democratic Party of Georgia.
