HOW DEMOCRATS ABROAD IS FIGHTING FOR U.S. TAX RELIEF FOR AMERICANS ABROAD
Please join us for an interactive discussion about how Democrats Abroad is fighting for U.S. tax relief for Americans abroad with speaker, Carmelan Polce, Chair of the Democrats Abroad Taxation Task Force (our front line for ending our terrible tax situation). She will provide a brief overview of the history of our fight, what we are currently doing and where our effort is headed. She will follow with Q&A and explain how you can help.
The Issue
As Americans overseas we deal with especially high levels of stress as we prepare our U.S. tax filings every year. Whether you owe taxes or not, filing is unreasonably complicated, and engaging filing support can be inordinately costly. For those of us who run small businesses the GILTI provisions can overwhelm with complexity, erode business viability and destroy our ability to grow or attract talented overseas partners. Even basic rights like participating in our host country’s pensions saving schemes do not receive fair tax treatments by our government.
What’s New?
We expect Congress to pass tax legislation this year for the first time in 4 years giving us an opportunity to push our tax reform recommendations into the bill. Democrats Abroad has been in HIGH GEAR for months, speaking to Congress and providing written advice to key legislators about the tax problems we need solved and our reform recommendations for how to do so. Further, our 200,000+ member organisation, with the guidance of Global Chair Candice Kerestan, is being engaged in the fight to get tax reforms for Americans abroad into the upcoming bills.
