Data for Democrats: A talk by Obama's data whiz David Shor

With the primaries just around the corner, every day seems to bring a new poll on which candidates on winning and which candidates are trailing behind. But are the polls really accurate? Does the data behind our these polls actually tell us anything about voters' real intentions and the major cultural shifts that are underway?

Join us on January 19th to hear from a man who can answer some of those questions: David Shor. As a young whiz on Obama's data analytics team in 2012 election, he predicted the results within 1 percentage point in all 50 states. Shor honed his skills in algorithms and polling working with Nate Silver, and today he works at Civis Analytics as the Head of Political Data Science.

Short will reflect on the successes and failures of polling during the 2016 and 2018 elections. Hear about how data analytics is evolving to better reflect a public that is more cautious and yet more digitally engaged. He will explain how Democratic campaigns can leverage data science to help us win in 2020.
