Statement by Angela Fobbs, Global Black Caucus Chair, and Julia Bryan, Democrats Abroad Global Chair
Justice has been delivered to George Floyd and his family, and we can all breathe a sigh of relief - for now.
We must take this moment to not only deliver justice for the dead but to protect the living. We must help make our country a place where we can all breathe freely, a place where the color of our skin does not put us at risk.
Philonise Floyd said after the verdict, "As an African American, we usually never get justice."
This inequality cannot stand.
The House has passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. It is time for the Senate to do so too. Democrats and Republicans must rise to the challenge of our times, unite our United States behind this issue, and transform policing in America.
Our moral compass is bending towards justice. It’s time to put policies in place to make this transformation complete. The time is now.
Take action now - contact your senators today and demand they support the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

If beer isn’t really your thing, but you still want to participate in Oktoberfest festivities, Democrats Abroad Germany has just the thing for you: an online wine tasting!
In celebration of Oktoberfest, DA Germany will gather online on Saturday, September 25 from 7-9pm CEST for a lovely wine tasting night hosted by DA Berlin’s Aimee M. Male. To attend the event, we are requesting a €10 donation.
In order to participate in the tasting, you will need to bring your own bottle of wine. Any wine will do - so grab your favorite or try something new with some of Aimee’s suggestions:
- German Riesling (either labeled Trocken, or Kabinett Trocken; or Feinherb)
- German Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir)
- German Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc)
- California Cabernet Sauvignon
- California Zinfandel
- California Chardonnay
An Oktoberfest Prize Draw will also take place throughout the two Oktoberfest events. Click here for more information.
About Our Wine Expert
Originally from San Francisco, Aimee has worked in the wine world for more than 20 years — from selling wines for U.S. retail stores, to making wine in the south of France and scouting new winemaking talents in Europe to bring to consumers in the United States. Currently a marketing manager and buyer for a major U.S. wine importer and a diploma candidate with the Wine & Spirits Education Trust based in London, she has made it her personal and professional goal to help wine drinkers navigate the often unnecessarily complicated world of wine, through better understanding the mechanics of taste. By learning more about how and why we taste what we do in a glass of wine, Aimee believes anyone can be a wine “expert.” She has lived in Berlin with her partner since 2006.
The tasting will be held on Zoom and we will send participants the meeting log-in information 48 hours before the event.
In case you’re interested: we’re also hosting an online beer tasting on October 30th from 7-9pm CEST! For more information about the online beer tasting, click here.
