    About Our Speaker
As someone who has served in three presidential administrations, Robert Reich has seen how the system works from the inside and as an author and Professor of Public Policy he explains how it has been corrupted and how we can fix it. His political and government experience spans decades, including serving on President Barack Obama's economic transition advisory board and four years as Secretary of Labor under President Bill Clinton. He's a prolific and bestselling author, publishing more than a dozen books and he has co-created two award-winning Netflix documentaries, Inequality for All and Saving Capitalism.
His recent opinion pieces in the The Guardian are deeply critical of how the US, the elite and businesses are operating during COVID-19. His new book, The System: Who Rigged It, and How We Fix It analyzes how we came to the current fraught economic and political situation, what systems keep it in place and how we can change the system so it serves the majority of Americans rather than the elite few. Join Democrats Abroad as we talk with Robert Reich to support Democrats Abroad's 2020 Get Out the Vote campaign, but also to find some solidarity, inspiration, and clarity along the way.
Secretary Reich will be taking questions from Democrats Abroad members. Please submit questions in advance by emailing CallTheWorld@democratsabroad.org.uk

2020 DA Mexico Annual General Meeting

    ¡Be the Margin of Victory!

2020 is a pivotal year for the future of American democracy. At Democrats Abroad Mexico, we remain committed to mobilizing the over 200,000 United States Voters in Mexico to restore respect, dignity, and integrity to our nation’s highest offices.

Getting Republicans out and Democrats in this year, however, is going to be a collective effort. It’s going to require us to work together nationwide like never before, keeping our eyes set on one main goal: getting each and every US voter in Mexico to vote.

We would thus like to cordially invite you to join us in our efforts by attending the

2020 Virtual Annual General Meeting of Democrats Abroad Mexico focused on “Being the Margin of Victory” from

Tuesday, May 27 to Wednesday, June 4, 2020 via WebEx & Cocktail Hour via Zoom.

Democrats Abroad Mexico is pleased to announce that Ben LaBolt, one of the foremost political advisors and communications strategists in competitive US elections, will be the keynote speaker at their Annual General Meeting.

Ben LaBolt most notably served as the National Press Secretary for President Obama’s reelection campaign. He was also the leading strategist on a number of highly competitive races, including press secretary for then-Congressman Sherrod Brown’s first campaign for U.S. Senate, communications director for Rahm Emanuel’s first campaign for Mayor and White House spokesman for the efforts to confirm Justices Sotomayor and Kagan to the Supreme Court.

In his afternoon keynote, LaBolt will explore what’s at stake in the 2020 elections, the role Democrats Abroad can play, and lessons learned from the Obama campaign. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from this leading and thought-provoking observer of the political scene.

Where are the children? Hear the experts

    Families belong together!
In April, the Trump White House issued a policy to separate children from their parents, relatives, or other adults who accompanied them in crossing the border, whether apprehended during an illegal crossing or, in numerous reported cases, legally presenting themselves for asylum. The policy involved prosecuting all adults who were detained at the U.S.–Mexico border, sending the parents to federal jails, and placing children and infants under the supervision of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. According to government officials, the policy led to the separation of more than 3,000 children from their parents.

We are all outraged at the separation of families at the border. To understand the situation at hand and what actions we can take, we have invited two experts on immigration policy and human rights, Roeland de Wilde and Veena Siddharth. Each one will give a presentation, followed by a Q&A session and discussion.

The plight of Immigrants in the US

Documentary film - Immigrants for Sale
The detention of migrants has become a multi-billion-dollar industry in which immigrants are sold to the highest bidder and traded like mere products. Private corporations run over 200 facilities that offer over 150,000-bed spaces and rake in a total profit of close to five billion dollars per year. These detention centers get paid for the number of people that are in the center per night. There is no incentive to speed up the legal processes and let the detainees leave the facility

Q&A with Immigration Lawyer – Amy Novick – via Skype from Washington D.C.

Amy has been involved with immigration and nationality law and policy for more than 25 years. She served as Deputy Director of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) where she directed the Association’s extensive immigration education program. • March Monthly Meeting - Presentation Report Back From Honduras

    March 25th, 2017

    STORIES FROM HONDURAS

Carol Marujo and Martha Rollins will present a program about Honduras. A coup d'etat in June 2009 removed the democratically-elected president Mel Zelaya from office. Seven years later a human rights delegation visited Honduras to learn about the situation in the country today. Carol and Martha were part of that delegation that traveled to many parts of the country, met with many civil society leaders; the family of the murdered indigenous/environmental rights leader, Berta Cáceres; and the US ambassador to Honduras. This will be a very compelling presentation, don't miss it.
