About the Position
Democrats Abroad (DA) was the margin of victory for Joe Biden in Georgia and Arizona, and we’re determined to continue delivering scale-tipping votes in races across the United States in 2021 and 2022. The Global Internal Communications Coordinator will play a critical role in achieving this aim by ensuring regular, clear, and engaging communication about DA’s activities, volunteer opportunities, and voting from abroad to DA members worldwide. A successful Global Internal Communications Coordinator should have deep knowledge of DA and its structure, exceptional writing skills, and experience crafting digital newsletters and publications for a large audience.
Responsibilities
- Write and send DA global newsletters
- Track DA global newsletter open and click rates, and use this information to assess and improve newsletters
- Create DA country newsletter templates that reinforce points made in DA global newsletters and distribute these to country-level DA leaders, especially country chairs and country communications coordinators
- Create template welcome email for all new DA members, updating as needed throughout 2021 and 2022
- Work with DA Advocacy, Engagement, Event, and Fundraising Coordinators to ensure that all key global messages/campaigns are included in communications with DA members
- Create and maintain newsletter calendar that is centrally stored and accessible to DA leaders
- Maintain DA’s homepage (democratsabroad.org)
- Collaborate with Democratic National Committee (DNC) Communications teams
- Work closely with Global Social Media and Press Coordinators to ensure coherent, consistent, and effective messaging
- Collaborate with Global Design Coordinator to increase DA’s brand awareness in internal communications
- Track and regularly report on quantitative metrics to the International Executive Committee
- Regularly attend DA International Executive Committee meetings
Skills & Qualifications
- Commitment to helping DA, the Democratic Party, and Democratic candidates succeed
- Member of Democrats Abroad (join here)
- Understanding of DA’s organizational structure and workflows, especially between the global and country levels
- Comprehensive knowledge of digital communication strategies employed in political contexts
- Familiarity with metrics used to evaluate newsletter effectiveness, and knowledge to contribute to improving these metrics for DA
- Experience crafting digital newsletters and publications to a large audience, preferably in a political setting
- Ability to generate innovative ideas to better help overseas voters, as well as to motivate and oversee volunteers that see them through
- Ability to manage multiple projects across multiple time zones
- Highly communicative and responsive to internal and external requests
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong IT skills, especially with Google Workspace and NationBuilder

Estimated Time Commitment: 10 hours/week in 2021; 15-20 hours/week in 2022

Compensation: Unpaid (but tremendously rewarding!)
