Mailed ballots need to be dated by March 8. Results are expected to be reported on March 21.
We hope you had the opportunity to vote in the Global Presidential Primary. If you didn't, you may still be able to vote in your state's Presidential Primary. Go to: www.votefromabroad.org for information about deadlines and how to request a ballot.
Remember you can only vote in one primary for President. So if you DID vote in the Democrats Abroad Primary, you cannot vote for President in your state primary, but you may be able to vote in the primary for other races such as Senator or House of Representatives.
See more below about our Delegate Selection Plan and if you are interested in becoming a Democrats Abroad delegate to the Democratic National Convention go to www.democratsabroad.org/become_a_delegate.
The 2016 Delegate Selection Plan for Democrats Abroad
In the Democratic Party, Presidential candidates are awarded delegates at the Democratic National Convention in proportion to their support in a state caucus or the number of votes received in a state primary. Any candidate receiving 15% or more of the primary votes cast in a Democratic presidential primary will be accorded delegates.
Democrats Abroad held a Global Presidential Primary from March 1-8, 2016. Ballots were cast by email, fax, post, or in-person at Voting Centers in countries around the globe. Democrats Abroad will hold a combination of local, regional and worldwide Caucus meetings to choose delegates to the Democratic National Convention. These meetings will culminate in a Global Convention in Berlin on May 14, 2016.
Democrats Abroad will send a total of 21 delegates to the Democratic National Convention to be held in Philadelphia in July 2016. Eight of these delegates will be our Members on the Democratic National Committee.
In addition to elected pledged delegates, Democrats Abroad will also send to Philadelphia: one or more alternates, one member for each of the three convention standing committees (Credentials, Platform, and Rules), six Democratic National Committee Members-elect and a page. To vote in the Democratic Global Presidential Primary and/or run for delegate to the Democratic National Convention, overseas Americans should go to www.DemocratsAbroad.org/become_a_delegate. The forms and detailed instructions for those seeking to be a delegate for Democrats Abroad will be available no later than February 15, 2016.
