Global Travel Fund Committee Chair

About the Position

Democrats Abroad (DA) was the margin of victory for Joe Biden in Georgia and Arizona. We’re determined to not only deliver scale-tipping votes in races across the United States in 2022 and beyond, but also to transport the perspectives of U.S. citizens living abroad back to lawmakers stateside. For DA to continue having this desired impact, it is imperative that we include more voices, and different kinds of voices, at the meetings where decisions are made. DA strives to include those leaders, especially those on low or fixed incomes, and help them attend our global meetings. In consultation with the International Chair, the Travel Fund Committee Chair will recruit a diverse group of members from around the world to raise and disburse travel funds on a fair and equitable basis.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a fair, transparent, and unbiased approach to determining Travel Fund award recipients (Note: The Travel Fund Committee Chair does not evaluate applicants, but rather manages the process and the committee members who make the evaluations.)
  • In coordination with the International Chair, recruit Travel Fund Committee members in accordance with the established Travel Fund procedures (i.e. at least one representative from each of DA’s three regions)
  • Work with the Fundraising Coordinator and the International Executive Committee to raise funds for the Travel Fund
  • In conjunction with Travel Fund Committee members, develop an accessible Travel Fund application form and submission process for supporting documentation
  • Ensure timely and widespread dissemination of the Travel Fund application process, including but not limited to:
    • Circulating regular notices to DA leaders with information and links
    • Encouraging regional and local leaders to share Travel Fund information and links with members through regional and local channels
  • Be available to reply to inquiries from leaders and applicants
  • Confirm receipt of applications and supporting documentation in a timely manner
  • Work with the International Secretary to determine applicant eligibility (membership status, past Travel Fund award receipt) and verify applicant information (past DPCA Global Meeting attendance)
  • Anonymize applications and supporting documentation to minimize bias without sacrificing the core of the applicants’ information before providing them to Travel Fund Committee members for evaluation
  • Receive applicant rankings from each Travel Fund Committee member and calculate results per the established Travel Fund Committee procedures
  • Inform the Travel Fund Committee and the International Executive Committee of results and detail any anomalies or issues in advance of notifying applicants of the results
  • Inform all applicants of results and next steps to receive their awards
  • Prepare and submit an annual Travel Fund Committee Report, to be presented to DA leaders at DA’s global meetings
  • In conjunction with Travel Fund Committee members, make recommendations for modifications to procedures for subsequent rounds based on the current year’s experiences

Skills & Qualifications

  • Commitment to helping DA, the Democratic Party, and Democratic candidates succeed
  • Member of Democrats Abroad (join here)
  • Familiarity with DA’s organizational structure
